To set the general import options: Click Open (Standard toolbar) or File > Open. In the dialog box, set Files of type to one of the following, then click Options. Whenever I import a Step file into Solidworks 2016 today it's opening it as an Assembly Template. It opens as an assembly and you can see all the components and mates correctly but whenever I attempt to save it the software is forcing me to save it as a Template. AutoCAD Mechanical supports a dedicated command to translate STEP files into the DWG format. Click Insert tabImport panelSTEP. Find Find and select the STEP file you want to import, or enter the name of the STEP file at File Name. The STEP translator exports SOLIDWORKS part or assembly documents to STEP files. You can select to export individual parts or subassemblies from an assembly tree, limiting export to only those parts or subassemblies. If you select a subassembly, all of its components are automatically selected.

Importing Altium Step Files Into Solidworks 2016 Download

What are my options for using massive STEP files from altium in solidworks? Knowing the exact size and location of each part is very important to me because I'm working with a small enclosure with heatsinking features, and there are way too many components on this pcb to model each one. Tiny pins, resistors, etc. have billions of features each that just completely bog down the file. Wii play motion pal ita.
I usually just save it as a part file and deal with the extra save time, but this current pcb is making me save for 10+ mins. What can I do?
